I see that the UK’s terrorism threat has officially been lowered from ‘severe’ to ‘substantial’, the lowest level it has been since 2014.
Naturally, this is a good thing, but there can be no doubt that the threat of terrorism is still a real one.
Gloucestershire is home to one of the bastions in the anti-terrorism fight, Cheltenham’s GCHQ. Although they cannot reveal the exact role they have played in the foiling of terrorist attacks, it is clear that they are heavily involved in the surveillance of suspects and in supplying information and intelligence to security agencies and police forces across the country.
We are lucky that there have been no serious incidents in Gloucestershire. However, it makes sense to remain vigilant at all times and report anything suspicious as soon as possible. If you have any concerns at all they can be reported via the Gloucestershire Police website.
Despite the reduction in the threat level, potential terrorism continues to be real and still with us and any part of the country could be affected.
