Off on Holiday? How Not to Get Burgled!

by | Jul 22, 2015 | Joomla Blog, News

It’s that time of year again when many of us are looking forward to our annual summer holidays. Unfortunately, there are some people who are also looking forward to you going away – burglars!

Don’t panic – there are some simple steps you can take to combat the bad guys and even fool them into thinking you are still at home.

Don’t discuss your holiday plans on public social networking sites. They are not as safe as you might think.
Arrange for a neighbour to pop in and collect the post, turn lights on and off and to open and close curtains. If possible, have someone park their car on your drive.
If you cannot have a neighbour collect the post, contact Royal Mail and enquire about their ‘keep safe’ service. For a small payment they will keep hold of your mail for up to two months under this scheme.
Set automatic timers to turn lights and a radio on and off.
Don’t forget to cancel any milk and newspaper deliveries.
Ensure all outbuildings, sheds and garages are locked.
Do not leave any ladders or DIY equipment left outside as they may be made use of to enter your premises. Lock them away out of sight.
Do not leave a message on your phone, website/blog or social networking service indicating you are away.

You may already be aware of many of these tips but employing as many of them as you can will ensure you can relax when you are away.
